Indiana Self-Defense: Indy woman shoots man, claims self-defense :: 03/25/2019

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by a woman who claimed to be acting in self-defense.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Caroline Avenue, located on Indianapolis’s near northeast side.

Police said the incident is being investigated as a possible self-defense shooting, which stemmed from an alleged domestic dispute. The woman reportedly told police she was in fear for her life when she shot the man. She claims he had pointed a handgun at her during an argument, which prompted her to draw a gun of her own.

The man was transported to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound. He is listed as being in critical but stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time, police said.

This isn’t the first time police have been called to the home located near Keystone and 25th Street. A police report filed in early February documents police arriving at the same address in response to a physical fight between a man and woman.

It’s unclear, however, if the couple in the previous incident are the same couple who are involved in Saturday’s shooting.
