Illinois Self-Defense: Woman allegedly shoots child's father in self-defense :: 12/09/2019

DECATUR, Ill. (WICS/WCCU) — A Decatur woman shot her child's father in an act of self defense, according to police.

The 33-year-old father was shot in the torso by his child's mother, who claimed she was defending herself as he was attacking her when she sat in her vehicle.

The man's injury was deemed non-life threatening. The child's mother had injuries on her face, which police said was consistent with being hit several times.

Police said she had a previous head injury and has a shunt in her head, which makes being hit in the head more dangerous.

The child's mother was arrested for a weapons offense related to her not having a concealed carry license. However, she wasn't charged for the shooting.

The child's father was arrested for vehicle invasion and domestic battery.
