Illinois Self-Defense: Second Self-Defense Shooting at Chicago Mall This Year :: 05/29/2023

A suspect was wounded on Sunday when he shot at a concealed carry holder, and the would-be victim shot back.

Chicago police said a 21-year-old suspect approached a man in the parking lot outside a Ross clothing store at the Ford City Mall on the southwest side of Chicago. When the suspect opened fire, the victim fired back with his weapon and hit the suspect in the thigh. They took the victim to the hospital, and the CCL holder is alive and well.

A 46-year-old man with a concealed carry license (CCL) got wounded in January in the same mall parking lot while trying to fend off an attempted carjacking.

Police say he was going to his car outside the JC Penney store around 1 p.m. when he saw someone trying to get into his vehicle.

The victim, who has both a FOID and a CCL and the carjacker traded gunfire before the carjacker jumped into a nearby car and drove away, causing a crash near the scene.

The victim was shot in the hand and thigh, and they took him to the hospital in good shape. Officials said a bullet grazed the carjacker in the head, and they apprehended three offenders.

One news outlet reported that yesterday’s attacker had an AK-47, but the Chicago Police Department reported it as a handgun. Whenever possible, you should be skeptical of anything you read and look at multiple sources. This could have gotten twisted into an attempted mass shooting and blown out of proportion. Not that any shooting is a minor event, but the mainstream media doesn’t need any help spreading disinformation.
