Hunter to finally face gun charges :: 09/07/2023

Hunter Biden is the poster boy for privilege. After all, he’s the president’s son and grew up as the son of a United States senator. He’s had everything essentially handed to him and has seemingly gotten away with just about anything.

There are a lot of allegations surrounding both Hunter and the elder Biden, of course. Most of those are outside of what we talk about here.

One thing he almost got away with, though, was gun charges for possessing a firearm while using illicit drugs. Now, it looks like he just might not.

Hunter Biden will face a new federal grand jury indictment relating to his gun charges by the end of the month, the Justice Department revealed in a court filing on Wednesday.

“The Speedy Trial Act requires that the Government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest. The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date,” special counsel David Weiss said in a document filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.

The filing was in response to an Aug. 31 oral order by the court for the Justice Department and Biden’s lawyers to provide it with a status update on the case, including any steps that they believe the Delaware court needs to take.

Lawyers for President Biden’s scandal-riddled son submitted their own update shortly after Weiss’, indicating that the 53-year-old has been following the conditions of a diversion agreement previously reached with federal prosecutors to avoid a felony gun charge.

The first son was set to receive sweeping immunity protection under a plea agreement he reached with federal prosecutors in June that would have enabled him to avoid prosecution on a felony charge of possessing a firearm while addicted to crack cocaine, but the deal fell apart in a Delaware courtroom in July.

Now, the issue here isn’t whether this law should or should not exist. I’m fully capable of debating both sides of this issue if I had to, but that’s irrelevant.

What is relevant is that few besides Hunter Biden would have gotten such treatment.

Sure, some might get a slap on the wrist because they’re generally law-abiding people who simply made a mistake, but the allegations around Hunter alone should have at least warranted some degree of punishment for the charges. Especially since it’s unlikely all he did wrong was a little tax evasion.

The thing to remember is that, as Orwell put it, some animals are more equal than others.

Now, though, Hunter is looking at finally facing the same charges we peasants would face under similar circumstances.

However, the issue I have is that he never should have gotten so close to skirting those charges in the first place. Not when we know so many others face similar charges on a regular basis but like the younger Biden’s connections to powerful people.

And, to be honest, I’m still not convinced he’ll really face punishment. He may get charged, but I won’t be surprised to see him somehow squirm out of them.
