How to Pack A Wound :: 03/26/2016

In the case of penetrating trauma to any where except the chest or abdomen an actively bleeding wound may require to be packed with gauze to stop the bleeding.

1. Identify the bleeding site inside the wound with your finger and apply direct pressure to the bleeding vessel.

2. Open your roll of gauze, H&H, or hemostatic gauze.

3. While maintaining pressure with your fingers on the bleeding vessel begin to pack as much gauze into the wound and up against the bleeding site, guiding the gauze with your fingers.

4. Pack the wound as tight and as fast as possible to stop the bleeding, pack all the wound channels you can find.

5 dress the wound with a pressure dressing.
