Georgia Self-Defense: Armed Robbery Suspect Shot Eight Times by Georgia Store Clerk After Multi-County Chase :: 05/02/2023

An armed robbery suspect’s crime spree came to a swift end after being shot eight times by a Georgia convenience store clerk during an attempted carjacking, following a multi-county high-speed chase.

On April 28, 2023, at approximately 3:30 am, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a commercial robbery at the Circle K Gas Station in Palm Coast, Florida. The suspect, Qwinntavus Kwame Jordan, alluded to having a firearm during the robbery but never brandished the weapon. He fled the scene with approximately $90 in cash and other miscellaneous items.

With the help of the Real Time Crime Center, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle on I-95 northbound from SR100 East. The vehicle was pursued by multiple law enforcement agencies through various counties until reaching the Florida-Georgia border. Once in Georgia, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit.

In Camden County, the Kingsland Police Department successfully deployed Stop Sticks, which brought Jordan’s vehicle to a halt. He then fled on foot and entered a nearby convenience store, where he brandished a firearm and demanded the clerk’s car keys. After crashing the stolen vehicle through the store’s front, Jordan chased the clerk and a customer, leading to a struggle.

The clerk, now armed, shot the suspect approximately eight times, as reported by Georgia authorities. Jordan was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The investigation is active and ongoing, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Jordan was also a fugitive wanted for armed robbery in Coffee County, Georgia, at the time of the incident.

Sheriff Rick Staly commended the Real Time Crime Center team, the agencies involved, and the Georgia store clerk for their swift actions. “If he survives his injuries, he should spend a long time in prison,” Staly added.
