Georgia Self Defense: Cops: Driver shoots man who forced him to stop, pulled him from vehicle :: 06/28/2021

A man was arrested Thursday night after forcing a driver out of his car and attacking him in northwest Atlanta, police said.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Brady Avenue around 11 p.m. for a report of a shooting. A 24-year-old man said he was driving south when Jamarcus James Holiday, 24, pulled up beside him in another car and threatened him, the police report said. The man told police he did not know Holiday.

He then pulled into the parking lot of the Miller Union restaurant and asked the valet to call police, the report said. Holiday pulled into the parking lot, stopped his car in front of the man’s vehicle and blocked him from exiting the lot, police said.

Holiday then pulled the victim out of his car, leading to a “physical struggle” between the two, police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said in a news release. The man told police that as Holiday reached toward his back pocket, he pulled his own gun and shot Holiday three times.

Police said a small handgun was found in the victim’s car after the incident. He told officers he had a permit to carry the weapon, the report said.

Holiday fled the scene after being shot, the man told police. He was eventually located and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the report.

Holiday was charged with simple battery and kidnapping and booked into the Fulton County Jail.
