Investigators say 24-year-old Chevez Antwann Fiason broke into a home at 2235 Chestnut Hills Drive around 6:30 a.m. and shot at two people. Fiason was then shot and killed by the homeowner.

"Forcing your way into an occupied residence is a bold and foolish decision. If you are foolish enough to break into someone's home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County," said Sheriff Grady Judd.

Crime scene technicians spent the entire day in and out of the home.

"I was surprised, the first day of the year and to see the crime unit, CSI," said neighbor Virgil Grimes. "I I was surprised because this is a good neighborhood."

Fiason has a violent arrest history and was released from state prison in March 2015.

Anyone who might have information about the incident is urged to contact the sheriff's office at 863-298-6200.
