Florida Self-Defense: Cab driver shoots robber in self-defense :: 06/02/2015

Sebastian FL. (CBS12) Sebastian Police are investigating an alleged attempted armed robbery that turned fatal early Saturday morning. Police say they responded near Periwinkle and Concha Drive around 12:45a.m, after a cab driver reported he was robbed at knifepoint.

According to police, the 51- year -old cab driver picked up a 36-year- old male and his 34-year-old male family member. Police say the cab driver knew both of the men previously from frequent requests for transportation. According to the victim when the men hailed the cab, they attempted to rob the driver at knifepoint. Acting in self-defense, the cab driver retrieved his firearm and shot the 36 year old man. Both men then fled the area, police said.

When officer arrived on the scene they found evidence that a person was injured due to a blood trail. The deputies followed the trail to the suspected 36- year- old’s residence.

When cops arrived at the suspects home, police say the cab driver identified the suspect that held him, at knifepoint. The suspect’s alleged accomplice was also located at the same residence.

Police attempted to perform medical assistance and requested emergency medical services. While in route to the hospital, cops say the suspect died.

The initial report does not indicate if the cab driver or decedent’s family member were injured.

The names of all the subjects are not being released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
