Florida Self-Defense: Armed Carjackers Try Stealing Woman's Car, Quickly Learn They Picked The WRONG Mom To Mess With :: 01/22/2016

A planned carjacking ended with humiliation and then with arrests Monday night as two armed suspects were no match for one very determined Florida mom.

Around 10:15 p.m. Monday surveillance video from the Tom Thumb gas station in Hialeah, Fla. shows two figures streak across the pavement to the gas pumps, apparently brandishing handguns. An SUV and a red convertible are shown at the pumps.

The carjackers tried to enter the SUV, but the driver, who was in the vehicle, locked the doors and then sped away. The two then turned to the red convertible, whose driver was pumping gas.

The video shows one armed carjacker jump into the driver’s seat of the convertible while another bangs on the windows with his gun.

The video then shows the mother, whose two children where in the back seat, storm from the gas pumps to the open driver’s side door and toss the would-be carjacker out across the pavement. He staggers away and stumbles, then runs away, joined in flight by his partner.

“Little did they know this was a mom, and she wasn’t going to let that car be taken,” said Sgt. Carl Zogby of the Hialeah Police Department. “She’s able to drag him out of the car while the other one on the other side runs away like a coward.” Neither the mother nor her children were hurt, Zogby said.

The fleeing suspects did not get far.

Juan Carlos Gonzalez, 17, and Nicholas Rosado, 19, were stopped in a vehicle driven by Rebecca Utria, 21, WPLG reported. The three faced charges of attempted armed carjacking and eluding police.
