Eight Killed In Mass Shooting At Indianapolis FedEx Facility :: 04/16/2021

Mass shootings are never a good way to start your day reading about them, but it happens.

It’s especially troubling after both Atlanta and Boulder. The one thing we should all hope for is a little peace and quiet. Unfortunately, that’s apparently not met to be.

Instead of peace and quiet, we have a shooting in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Eight people were killed and several others wounded in a mass shooting at an Indianapolis FedEx facility on Thursday night, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Genae Cook said.

Authorities were aware of multiple other injured victims in hospitals, one of whom was in critical condition, she said during a media briefing early Friday.

Police believe the shooter took his own life and there is “no active threat to the community at this time,” Cook said.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, she said.

Police arrived around 11:00 p.m. local time to an active-shooter situation and entered the facility without hesitation, Cook said.

“The officers responded, they came in, they went in and they did their job,” Cook said. “A lot of them are trying to face this because this is a sight no one should ever have to see.”

At least four people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, according to Cook. At least three others were transported with various injuries and two people were treated by medical personnel and released at the scene, she said. Others have been self-transporting to nearby hospitals.

Of course, this was really just a matter of hours ago, as of this writing, and we still don’t know very much. In particular, we know nothing about why this shooting took place.

We also don’t have information that will likely become key talking points in the coming days, like who the shooter was, how he was able to obtain a weapon, and what kind of weapon he used.

No, none of that should matter right now. Eight people are dead in a case of senseless violence and it’s just the latest in a far too common story.

As noted earlier, this is still fairly early, so don’t be surprised if the death toll changes, and not just because there’s one victim in critical condition. For that victim and all the others, we should all pray for a full and speedy recovery.

We here at Bearing Arms will continue to monitor the situation and will report any updated information we learn. In the meantime, be prepared to see debate pop up around this incident, even though we know absolutely nothing about this particular situation. We don’t know the gun used, the motives, any warning signs, nothing at all.

Of course, when has a lack of information ever stopped the American people from debating a given topic to death? There’s absolutely no reason to believe this time will be any different.
