Donald Trump answers viewers' questions on guns, 'The Apprentice,' race, economy :: 12/17/2014

Before my exclusive interview with Donald Trump on Monday night, I asked viewers what they wanted me to ask the real estate mogul. Trump was happy to take the social media questions.

Mark Esposito asked on Facebook: Where does he see the country as a whole going if things do not change?

“I don't think you can get very much worse,” responded Trump. “We're not respected as a country. The Middle East and large parts of the world have gone to hell under this leadership. We have $18 trillion in debt -- soon to be $22 trillion in debt, which is a sacred number -- it's a tipping point.”

Trump says the protests around the country over race and police tactics since Ferguson are a result of these hard times.

“The African American population, and especially the male provider, has never done worse than they are now. They are doing horribly in terms of the economics,” he said. “When you look at the real unemployment in the country, it is actually 20 percent -- forget this nonsense about 5.3 percent and 8.3 percent.”

He concluded that, “The African American population is doing much worse. So that causes great tensions.”

On Twitter, @jdwynnyckyj asked: Why is he "privileged" in receiving a CCW in NYC? Is he in danger, and is it not self-manufactured?

“I have the right to carry a gun. I don't consider it a privilege. I consider it probably a necessity,” Trump said. “As you know I'm a big Second Amendment person -- as you are Emily.”

He also explained that, “The bad guys have it. The good guys have to have it. And I'm a very staunch proponent of being able to protect yourself.”

On Twitter, @Mike0376 asked: Do you plan on doing a normal person "Apprentice" or will you continue to do celeb editions only?

“We've had great success with both. I really like doing the celebrity to meet people I've read about, I've seen, and I find interesting. And it does so well,” he answered.

I said that I think the reason a lot of people asked that question about “Apprentice” for regular people is the same reason people tweeted and posted to ask for a job or a loan. They need jobs and money.

Trump talked about the early seasons of the show.

“We did the lines and auditions for the ‘Apprentice' -- they'd be blocks long ... They all wanted a job. They wanted to win the money you got -- $250,000 ... So it was sad in one way and beautiful in another way.”

The NBC show started ten years ago, but people still look to him as a dream to get a big job or have millions of dollars. Trump is controversial, but he represents hope for everyone who is struggling that they can one day have great financial success.
