California Self-Defense: Tuolumne man dies in Angels Camp shooting :: 07/07/2015

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the fatal weekend shooting of a Tuolumne township man outside an Angels Camp-area home.

The incident as reported about 11:50 a.m. Sunday on the 6000 block of Chaparojos Street in the Bar XX subdivision, according to a Sheriff’s Office statement Wednesday.

Ronald Richard Farmer II, 26, was apparently attempting to force entry into a home and threatening to kill 29 year-old resident Derek Rutherford.

Rutherford armed himself with a handgun as Farmer continued to threaten him.

A woman arrived to the scene and Farmer then told Rutherford he would kill the woman. Rutherford exited his home and shot the man multiple times, according to the statement.

Rutherford was questioned by deputies and released. An investigation is ongoing.
