MERCED, Calif. (FOX26) — A man shot and killed a home intruder, police say.
It happened Wednesday just after 10 p.m. in the 600 block of W. Yosemite Avenue in Merced.
According to the Merced Police Department, the resident told dispatch that the suspect kicked down the door to his house. The homeowner armed himself with a shotgun.
Police say the suspect continued into the house toward the homeowner who then fired a shot in self-defense.
Police say the shot killed a man in his 30's. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homeowner told police he does not know the suspect. Police are continuing to investigate a motive for the break-in.
The homeowner was not injured during the break-in and the identity of the suspect is not being released at this time.
