California Self-Defense: North Long Beach Resident Shoots, Kills Alleged Burglar :: 01/03/2017

A north Long Beach resident apparently shot and killed a burglar early Monday in the first shooting death of the year.

Long Beach police were called at 5:15 a.m. to the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard on a report of a shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The resident who was responsible for the shooting remained at the scene.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Long Beach homicide detectives were called to investigate. The case is being investigated as an attempted burglary that resulted in the resident shooting the suspect in self-defense.

According to the police, no arrests had been made as of 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
