California Self-Defense: Anderson man dies after crashing truck into home intentionally, police say :: 06/20/2022

Anderson Police say a man intentionally crashed his truck into a home in the 1300 block of Hemlock Avenue Sunday night.

According to police, officers were called just before 9 p.m. to the home on Hemlock Avenue and found Frank Robert Brinkley, age 59, of Anderson, had rammed his vehicle into the front of his ex-girlfriend’s house multiple times.

Officers also found Brinkley suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say, prior to shooting Brinkley had assaulted a man on Parkville Road in Anderson and left the location in his blue Ford pickup. The man told police Brinkley had been drinking alcohol and was intoxicated.

Police say, Brinkley then drove to the home of a friend of his ex-girlfriend and crashed his truck into a firepit and a vehicle at the residence. Brinkley then drove into the City of Anderson on Deschutes Road where another person called him in as a possible DUI driver. This person told police Brinkley was driving with a flat tire and driving in a reckless manner.

Brinkley then drove to his ex-girlfriend’s residence on Hemlock Avenue and began intentionally ramming the front of the residence. Witnesses told police Brinkley rammed his truck into the front of the house multiple times.

One of the men in the house armed himself with a shotgun and told Brinkley if he did not stop his actions he would be shot. Brinkley then accelerated the truck towards the man standing behind the front security screen door. The man fired one shot, hitting Brinkley.

All of the family members within the residence have been cooperative with detectives. The shotgun used was lawfully owned by the male.

A Domestic Violence restraining order was in place, barring Brinkley from being within 100 yards of the residence. Since the issuance of the Domestic Violence Restraining Brinkley has violated the order multiple times and had been previously arrested.

Brinkley was a convicted felon and his criminal history includes arrests for stalking, criminal threats, drug possession, and resisting and delaying a peace officer.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Anderson Police Department at (530) 245-6526.
