Australia Self-Defense: Store owner fights back against robbers with improvised flamethrower :: 02/01/2016

ALEXANDRA HILLS, AUSTRALIA — An Australian shop owner’s quick thinking and flammable defense startled two armed robbers Saturday.

According to Nine News, the suspects burst into the shop in Alexandra Hills with weapons drawn.

That’s when the store clerk, Dan Rigney, grabbed a can of bug spray and a lighter, creating a flamethrower.

One of the suspects ran out of the store while the other fell backwards, dropping one of his weapons. The suspects then regained composure and pointed their guns at Rigney while threatening him.

Rigney fled the store and the suspects made off with $680.

Nine News reports this is the second time Rigney has stood up against thieves. The brave worker allegedly chased down an armed robber, helping police make an arrest.

Police are still searching for the suspects.
