Arkansas: Pawn Shop Employee Pulls Gun, Wounds Robber, Foils Robbery Attempt :: 12/09/2014

A pair of criminals in Arkansas bit off more than they could chew when they tangled with the staff of C & S Pawn.

Police said the incident happened around 9 a.m. Saturday at the C & S Gun and Pawn Shop at 1208 South Thompson in Springdale.

Employees reported two men walked into the store, one wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, police said.

“They split up, they both pulled out hand guns that looked like black semi-automatic pistols and began to rob the store,” according to Lt. Derek Hudson with the Springdale Police Department. “One of the employees also pulled out a weapon and there were shots exchanged.”

The suspects then fled the store on foot, leaving several shell casings and blood on the floor, according to police.

The robber in the grey hooded sweatshirt took a round through the forearm as he hopped the the counter and the owner pulled her revolver and fired a round (photo above). The robbers then exchanged gunfire with the owner and fled the store, only to be found out when one of the robbers sought medical attention. The other robber was arrested as he sat in the getaway car at the hospital. Both guns used in the robbery and stolen jewelry from the robbery were recovered in the vehicle, which belonged to one of the robbers.

The inept criminal pair are now facing charges of Attempted Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery.

If you follow the link to the original story you can watch the gun battle on the store’s video camera, which is anything but pretty.

The two robbers pulled their guns and attempted to take control of the store, but while the robber in the orange hoodie corrals the male owner of the store with relative ease, the robber in the gray sweatshirt first to jumped the counter… a mistake that gave the female owner time to pull out a snub-nosed revolver and point-shoot him from close range.

She apparently connected on the first shot from just several feet away, and then an abbreviated gun battle broke out. She fired several more shots at the robber in gray, and both robbers returned fire. The robber in orange is seen in the video repeatedly manually cycling his pistol, littering the floor with unfired cartridges as the robber in gray fired, nearly striking her. She wilted to the ground, but wasn’t hit. She apparently passed out from the stress of the fight, and was later seen being revived by EMS.
