Arizona Self-Defense: Armed Cornville man confronts burglar; suspect begs homeowner not to shoot :: 09/21/2016

CORNVILLE - A Cornville man confronted a burglar with a handgun and ordered him to lie on the floor around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a press release from Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect escaped through the front door when the homeowner briefly left the room to access a phone.

YCSO deputies were dispatched to the 5600 block of E. Whisper Ridge in Cornville, responding to a burglary call. The area is known as the Verde Santa Fe subdivision located off Cornville Road.

The homeowner, who is in his 80s, awoke to the sound of someone rummaging through cabinet drawers, according to the release. The suspect has not been caught, and none of the victim's property was taken, according to YCSO.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or darker-skinned white male, in his 20s or 30s, and of average to tall height. The release said the suspect is stocky, but not fat, and spoke English clearly without an accent. The suspect begged the homeowner not to shoot him, according to the release. The homeowner was unable to provide further details due to the darkness.

YCSO determined that the point of entry was an unlocked and open front window, where the suspect removed a screen.

Anyone with information about this suspect is urged to call the Sheriff's Office, with reference to case 16-033574, at 928-777-7441.
