A home invasion turned deadly Tuesday when a homeowner in Alabama shot and killed an alleged burglar.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, on July 11 at approximately 11:10 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Vernant Park Community in reference to a burglary in progress.
Before deputies could arrive, they were notified that the situation escalated, and the homeowner shot the burglar, according to a release.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found one deceased male with a gunshot wound and the shooter in the front yard of the home.
The shooter was unarmed when deputies arrived and complied with their orders. He was detained and identified as the homeowner. The suspected burglar was identified as Noah Hastings of Foley, Alabama.
The homeowner and other witnesses were interviewed about what led to this incident.
Through the course of those interviews and a review of the evidence on scene, a preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Hastings came onto the property and unlawfully entered the home, a release said.
Deputies said three adults and five small children were in the home during the incident.
The altercation moved into the front yard where Hastings began destroying property, officials said. During the altercation, Hastings made statements to the effect that he was going to kill the homeowner.
According to deputies, the homeowner advised he was in fear for his safety and the safety of his family members and shot the victim.
No charges have been filed at this time.
